Our area began to be settled after the lighthouse was built on Cape Canaveral in 1848. By the 1880's our main cities of Titusville, Cocoa and Melbourne were incorporated with populations in the low 100's. In the late 1950's Cape Canaveral was chosen as the launch site for America's Space Program and our modern era began.
