Our people are an eclectic mix of old desert rats, escapees from the big city, and people who have just come to love this place of rugged beauty. Don't be surprised when you find out that that dusty old guy in the corner of the restaurant is not an old prospector, but a world renowned geologist or a retired rocket scientist. We are full of surprises
The Death Valley area has had human habitation for over a thousand years. The History of our area has been shaped by the earth. The first whites to visit this area came looking for the riches that could be dug from its rocky soil. First Gold and Silver, then Borax and other minerals were pulled from this geologic wonderland in recent years. We have become the home to a interesting group call Desert Rats, people who have come to love the beauty of the area and can think of nowhere else to live.
To ensure that you don't miss any of the incredible opportunities in our area be sure to stop at the Death Valley Chamber of Commerce office in Shoshone at the Shoshone Museum.
