There are no real cities to speak of, but you won't want to miss the Furnace Creek area in Death Valley National Park, or the hamlets of Shoshone or Tecopa with their museum, restaurants, and hot springs. Winter: While most of the country is covered in snow, Death Valley enjoys temperatures in the upper 60's perfect for being outside.
Spring: Spring is Wildflower season with the valley floor exploding with color and temperatures in the 80's.
Summer: This is Death Valley at its most extreme. With temperatures over 110 degrees with and days above 120 common.
Fall: Maybe the best time to visit with small crowds and temperatures in the Mid 80's to mid 90's.
The easiest way to get here is to fly into Las Vegas and take highways 95 or 160 To the Death Valley area. We are only 2 hours away. The recreational opportunities in our area are as limitless as your imagination. Shoshone Old West Days (First weekend in November), Death Valley 49'ers Encampment (Veterans Day Weekend), and the Spring Wildflower Season (Feb-April) Fall and Winter are the best times to visit our area. With small crowds and warm temperatures you will have the largest variety of activities available. Check with the Death Valley Chamber of Commerce to get Visitors Guides and recommendations on local hot spots. Our people are an eclectic mix of old desert rats, escapees from the big city, and people who have just come to love this place of rugged beauty. Don't be surprised when you find out that that dusty old guy in the corner of the restaurant is not an old prospector, but a world renowned geologist or a retired rocket scientist. We are full of surprises The Death Valley area has had human habitation for over a thousand years. The History of our area has been shaped by the earth. The first whites to visit this area came looking for the riches that could be dug from its rocky soil. First Gold and Silver, then Borax and other minerals were pulled from this geologic wonderland in recent years. We have become the home to a interesting group call Desert Rats, people who have come to love the beauty of the area and can think of nowhere else to live.
