Panama city is one of the preferred destinations in Latin America. The city speaks about its rich past and prosperous future. Two thousand years of culture, commerce, and conquest are to be found in Old Panama, the colonial quarter, and the high rises of the international banking center.
Panama a country so small that on a clear day, one can spot the two oceans from a top its highest peak, yet so rich that its wonders cover the mainland and extend to countless islands and miles of underwater abundance.

Panama is one of the world’s most visitor-friendly countries. It has the highest rating for tourist safety from the prestigious Pinkerton Intelligence Agency. Its people are warm, friendly and unspoiled. Panama has always been international crossroads-Panamanians are accustomed to meeting people from other lands and English is a second language. Another great visitor convenience is that the US dollar is the Panamanian currency.

Panama as the rest of Centro America got its independence from Spain in 1821 and became a Colombian province.  Later got it’s independence from Colombia with the United States support, since they had replaced the French Government for the Canal construction.
Traditionally Panama’s port of Portobello was the trade point of goods between Europe and the Americas.  This is the reason why today Panama City is one of the world’s shopping paradises.

Geographic distribution

9 provinces (Coclé, Bocas del Toro, Columbus, Chiriquí, Darién, Herrera, Saint, Panama and Veraguas) and 5 indigenous regions (Kuna Yala, Emberá Wounan, Kuna de Madungandí, Kuna de Wargandí and Gnobe Bugle ').

70% mestizos, 10% white, 12% mulatos and 8% natives

Religions

93% Roman Catholics, 6% Protestants. Total freedom of cult exists.

Official Language

The official language in the Republic of Panama is the Spanish, many Panamanians are bilingual (inglés/español).

Government

Constitutional democracy, State divided in three powers: Executive (President, two Vice-presidents), Legislative (Legislative Assembly) and Judicial (Supreme Court of Justice).
